General PTA Meeting Reminder - Wed 2/16/22 from 6:30-7:15pm

PTA Meetings » Floris Elementary PTA

Our next PTA meeting is this Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 6:30pm over Zoom.

Here is our TENTATIVE AGENDA. Please let us know if you'd like to discuss anything in particular!

Please see the links in the above agenda for the JANUARY MINUTES and the STANDING RULES that need to be approved Wednesday. The standing rules document was shared with you in previous meetings. If there are any comments/concerns/suggestions, please reach out before the meeting so they can be addressed. Suggestions will be added in italics in a different color to discuss at the meeting.

Links for other handouts will be active by the morning of the meeting.

CALL FOR A NOMINATING COMMITTEE

We need at least 3 people to serve on the nominating committee on Wednesday. We also need 1 back up. Would YOU be interested?

Nutshell of Responsibilities: Committee members will have an initial meeting with the President (me) to discuss logistics of the committee and I will share the documents you will need to conduct your work, you will review the membership roster and application forms for the President and Treasurer role together, actively seek out applications, confidentially discuss the best candidate for the role, and present a slate of 2 people for the available roles (1 for Treasurer and 1 for President) to the board. Elections will be in 2 months. The nominating committee can consist of any PTA member except the President, during deliberations. Members on the committee CAN also apply for a role that is available, they would just remove themselves from the discussion of the role they are seeking.

If you have any questions about serving on this committee, please ask. Elections will take place in April, as long as no scheduling issues arise.

NOTE FOR PTA VOLUNTEERS

All volunteers will soon be receiving an e-mail asking to confirm their availability for various committees needed from now until June. Your response would be appreciated after you receive this note.

As always, please check our website, http://jfcooperpta.blogspot.com for updates and information from the Cherry Hill Zone PTA regarding happenings within our school district.

Thank you for your attention!!

Attn: 5th Grade Parents Re: Middle School

5th Grade Parents!

In case you missed it, here are the 5th grade information night recordings for Beck and Rosa

If you would like to submit an application for Open Enrollment to Rosa Middle School, please follow the directions here. Applications will be accepted from February 14, 2022 through February 25, 2022. You must submit your application by 11:00 pm on February 25, 2022

I also wanted to share an update on the district redistricting effort:

As many of you already know, Cherry Hill is in the process of redistricting the schools, starting with middle. After the Board of Ed meeting last Tuesday, it appears that the sixth grade center option has been taken off the table, leaving the options that make Beck, Carusi and Rosa community schools, each containing 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.

But, while there was a lengthy discussion about middle school redistricting, the answer about kids being allowed to finish where they start middle school still remains a question. The majority of the board publicly supported allowing the kids to finish where they began. However, the district has not yet made clear if this will be adopted. This means that next year's middle school students may be sent to a new school for their 7th or 8th grade year. For our kids, this means that the students at Rosa now or the ones who get into Rosa for next year may have to switch to Beck the following year. The students at Beck would likely stay at Beck.

I encourage all parents who feel strongly about allowing the students of the 2022-2023 school year to finish middle school where they started to sign the petition here

We also encourage our parents and community members to email the Board of Education, Dr. Meloche and members of the Middle School Redistricting Committee to let them know how you feel. Emails are listed here

And, as always, the PTA welcomes feedback from our community so that we can advocate for the children of JF Cooper Elementary.

Thank you,
Amanda LeeMasci
