Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week (May 3-May 7) is next week! Thank you to so many of you for your donations of small prizes to distribute to staff with our prize wheel. Your generosity is very much appreciated! If anyone is still interested in sending in donations from the Sign Up Genius page please send in items no later than Tuesday, May 4 unless otherwise noted.

Here is our schedule for staff and studentsPlease note that dressing suggestions for each day  are for fun and optional. 

Monday, May 3, 2021 will be a special "Chalk the Walk" event where students can decorate sections of the sidewalk for teachers. If your child is interested in participating, please sign up for a slot here

Zone PTA Update - 4/29/21

 ZONE update:

  • The next Zone PTA meeting is Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 9:15am via Zoom. The Zone PTA Exec Board will be meeting with Dr. Meloche virtually on Tuesday May 4, 2021.  If you have any questions you would like us to ask Dr. Meloche, please let Shazia know ASAP.


  • The next Fair Funding Committee meeting is Thursday April 29th at 7:00pm via Zoom.  April Fair Funding Flyer

  • PTA Presidents received email notification yesterday of CHEA President Steve Redfearn’s generous offer to assist the PTAs with their Teacher Appreciation activities with a reimbursement opportunity of up to $250 per PTA.  THANK YOU CHEA!


  • WE Learn Through Service service project involving distribution of books at May 3, 2021 from 12pm – 2pm and again from 4pm – 6pm, during the district food distribution scheduled at HS East

    • The WE Learn Through Service group was born from the goals and work of the district’s Cultural Proficiency, Character Education, and Equity Committee, and is open to students Grades K-12 within our school district.  The purpose of this group is to work on service learning projects inspired by our students’ voices to solve community and world issues.  Students interested in joining the group can sign up at https://tinyurl.com/WELearn-2021-signup. Students who join the group will be invited to meetings (currently occurring via Google Meet) and asked to participate whenever their schedule allows.  This group will have many flexible opportunities for students to participate around any other commitments they may have now or in the future as well as what talents they believe they can share in the work we complete.

Providing a safe environment is a partnership between parents/guardians and the school district.   Please remind your school communities:

  • To review the Travel Guidelines for Students when traveling out of town.

    • Alert the school nurse about any planned travel to discuss the required post-quarantine guideline, prior to sending student back to school.

  • Use the COVID-19 At Home Screening prior to sending students to school

  • Report to the nurse if student or any household member tests positive for COVID, or if they have an actual or suspected COVID exposure

  • Keep students home when they are sick

  • Promptly pick up students if they become sick at school

  • Genesis Attendance Calendar Update: The Genesis attendance calendar is currently updated through the month of May. 


  • NJDOE Seeks Input Challenges of Educating in 2021 [Deadline 4/30/2021]

    • The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE), in a joint venture with GovLab at New York University, is seeking input from New Jersey educators, students and caregivers to share their views on the biggest challenges of educating in 2021. This New Jersey specific questionnaire is one of a series of national, online engagements, focusing on the problems, solutions and challenges facing our education system. 

    • From April 5 – April 30, 2021, the NJDOE encourages all educators, as well as caregivers and students, to take the appropriate survey on the YourEducationYourVoice platform. If possible, the department asks that you please use Google Chrome browser or Mozilla Firefox.

 

  • The Community Bulletin Board, found on the District website, offers information on programs, activities and events in the Cherry Hill area. The most recent Bulletin Board items include Big Brothers Big Sisters' call for youth participants, and YMCA of the Pines Summer Camps information. Check the Community Bulletin Board regularly for updates!

 

  • School Age Child Care (SACC) registration for the 2021-2022 school year begins May 3, 2021. Full information is available on the School Age Child Care & STEP page of the District website.

 

  • Thanks to an extension of federal funds, CHPS distribution of FREE meals to ALL CHERRY HILL STUDENTS (public, private and home-schooled) continues on every Monday. Pick up 7 breakfasts, 7 lunches and 10 snacks per student from noon-2:00pm and 4:00-6:00pm at High School East or High School West -- no income threshold required!  

    • Friendly reminder: Please mask up when picking up FREE meals/snacks! WE want to keep you & the Aramark team safe & healthy as they hand out meals to 1,000+ cars each Monday while being unable to maintain 6 feet of distance. These are state, Cherry Hill, Aramark & CDC guidelines. 


  • Through the summer of 2021: Any family currently receiving free wifi from the District will automatically keep it through the summer, unless their youngest/only child is a high school senior (Class of 2021).

  • Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week (May 3-May 7) is right around the corner. We are looking for donations of small prizes to distribute to staff with our prize wheel. Send in any of the items requested on the Sign Up Genius page to the main office by this Friday so that the Teacher Appreciation Week Committee can be ready! 
  • We are asking students in each class to submit a poster for Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week that can be hung up at school the week of the event. If your child is interested, please send in these posters by Friday, April 30, 2021 to the main office.
  • Staff Members will be treated to some special snacks sponsored by the PTA, Cherry Hill Education Association, and breakfast sponsored by a generous Cooper family.
  • Students can have some fun with our dressing schedule below. This is all OPTIONAL and no students are required to participate.

    • Thank you to all students who participated in our Science Fair! Parents, please see your e-mails for the link and password to view some really fun experiments! 
    • We need your photos from virtual and hybrid learning! Please see our newsletter for more information.

    Zone PTA Update - 4/19/21

    ZONE update:

    • Please continue to share the word about Fair Funding! We need to increase awareness regarding Fair Funding for CHPS! Here are some simple actions that can be done to keep the momentum going!

    1. Education on why Fair Funding is so important! Share the Fair Funding for CHPS website & Fair Funding for CHPS Facebook page  

    2. Attend Fair Funding Committee meetings! The committee meets the last Thursday of every month during the school year.  The next meeting  is Thursday April 29th at 7:00pm via Zoom.

      • Cherry Hill Education Association is generously sponsoring a middle grade author event, to which we cordially invite you.  As some of you know, we were not able to book our original author, Tiffany Jewell, due to scheduling conflicts. However, we are proud to share that Corretta Scott King Honoree, poet, speaker, author, and educator, Kwame Alexander, will officially be our visiting author this spring.   

      • Kwame is a New York Times Bestselling author of 35 books, including the Caldecott Medal and Newbery Honor-winning picture book, The Undefeated,  and his Newberry medal-winning middle grade novel, The Crossover. Kwame opened a library and health clinic in Ghana, as a part of LEAP for Ghana, an international literacy program he co-founded. Kwame is also the Founding Editor of the printing house Versify, which aims to "Change the World One Word at a Time".

      • This event is generously supported by a CHEA Pride grant

    • The Cherry Hill Public Library is hosting a free virtual program for caregivers on How to Pay for College on May 19 at 7:00pm

    • CHPS Town Hall to Feature Discussion on WE Return to Lean and Plans for Fall 2021

      • Monday, April 19, 2021 from 7-8:30 pm.

      •  The topic will be the "Return to Learn" Plan for finishing the 2020-2021 school year and planning for the fall of 2021.
